Re-Thinking Plastics, Re-Thinking Waste:
EAC was one of the main sponsors of a three-part “Re-Thinking Plastics, Re-Thinking Waste” series that ran monthly from August to October 2007. Topics included the dangers of plastics pollution and how to reduce our impact, zero waste, producer responsibility for pollution creation and the potential dangers of the Redwood Landfill expansion.
These well-attended events helped to highlight the important steps we all can take to reduce our ecological footprint on the planet and to help us hold government and industry accountable for their practices. If you would like to learn more about ways that you can help reduce your use of plastics and/or help reduce waste creation in the region, please click on the appropriate link below:
Re-Thinking Plastics: Plastics pollution is on the rise around the world and is particularly affecting our oceans and marine life. For example, it is estimated that tens of thousands of sea birds and mammals die each year from ingestion, entanglement, or exposure to plastics. Redwood Landfill Expansion: All of West Marin's garbage is trucked to the Redwood Landfill, which is built on top of wetlands near Novato. Not only are some of its day-to-day management practices questioned, but the landfill is pushing a proposal to expand the landfill in these senstive wetlands.
