After ten years of environmental review, the Lawson’s Landing Environmental Impact Report will finally have a public hearing!
Date: Monday, January 28, 2008. Place: Marin County Planning Commission, Room 328, Marin Civic Center, San Rafael. Directions: take the North San Pedro Road exit from Highway 101 and turn left onto Civic Center Drive. Time: Lawson’s Landing is on the agenda for 2:15.
Please come! Your presence will show support for protecting Tomales Dunes, even if you do not speak.
NOTES: The purpose of the meeting is for the Planning Commission to take public comment on the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) and to decide whether or not to recommend to the Board of Supervisors that it be formally accepted (“certified”). This is the culmination of an environmental review process that began in 1998.
EAC has closely reviewed and commented on all the reports produced during this long review period. We are extremely disappointed in the final document, which reflects virtually none of the concerns raised by independent , community groups, private citizens, or public agencies. The FEIR is not a legally adequate document and in our view it is beyond rescue by the agencies that produced it.
Meanwhile, Lawson's Landing continues to operate without the required State and County permits, causing damage to wetlands, dunes, wildlife and water quality. It is time for Marin County to move on and take action to stop these illegal and damaging activities and to impose environmental controls.
For this reason, EAC urges the Commission to put this fatally flawed FEIR behind it and get on with hearings on the Lawson's Landing Master Plan, which will determine the future of the site. Recreation and nature can co-exist at Lawson's Landing and will do so once the area is brought into compliance with State and local laws.
