The Jerry Friedman EAC Scholarship
Each year EAC offers a full scholarship to the Environmental Forum of Marin's unique five-month training program for environmental activists.The Jerry Friedman EAC Scholarship pays the tuition for a West Marin resident accepted into the program.The Scholarship honors a great environmentalist. Jerry Friedman, who died in 1999, was a founder of EAC and its first Executive Director.The scholarship is awarded annually to a West Marin resident enrolled in the Environmental Forum of Marin’s Training Program for environmental activists. The scholarship honors Jerry in the way we think he would most appreciate—by enabling others to follow in his footsteps in working for West Marin.
Alumni of the Environmental Forum include many of Marin's best-known environmental leaders.The course consists of weekly seminars and field studies with experts in many fields, at locations throughout Marin. Participants meet key professionals, government officials and dedicated citizens working actively for environmental organizations and have the opportunity to intern with leading community organizations. Classes are on Tuesdays, from 8:30 to 3:30. College credits are available.
Among the topics covered are wildlife, geology, soils, and plant communities; water and watersheds; oceans, bays, and estuaries; open space; land use; agriculture; transportation; energy; toxics; solid waste; population and sustainability; environmental philosophy; environmental economics, environmental education; and advocacy.If you are interested in the Jerry Friedman Scholarship, please apply to the Environmental Forum in the ordinary way (see below for contact information).
