The Meet Your Marin MPA’s project is a series of social media reels about our local Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Through this work, Andrew wants to share helpful information about these zones with the community. This content highlights what these areas are, the local wildlife, and specific protections while promoting MPA awareness and our MPA Watch program.

Sea Level Rise Planning in Marin County

EAC has been involved for over a decade in updates to Marin’s Local Coastal Program (LCP), the planning document that guides planning in the Coastal Zone under the California Coastal Act. For her capstone project this summer, Anna has created a presentation intended to educate the public about sea level rise, the public trust doctrine, both current and past sea level rise planning efforts in Marin County, and respective policy recommendations. She also hopes to make suggestions for community engagement and involvement in the planning process.

Balancing Water Security and Environmental Protection: Rethinking Atmospheric River Capture

Early in 2026, Marin Water presented the Atmospheric River Capture Project, a thirteen mile long pipeline that would connect the Russian River to the Nicasio Reservoir and store excess water during atmospheric river storms. Through weeks of research, Paige has created a presentation outlining some of the major concerns with the project as well as some alternatives that Marin should consider instead. She aims to present a non-precipitation based conservation effort to implement in Marin county.

Our Capstone Conversations event offers an opportunity to meet our talented Coastal Advocate and Conservation (Policy & Law) interns, as they present their projects and share how their work is helping to advance real-world solutions in environmental policy, law, advocacy, community science, education, and more. Light refreshments provided.

An essential part of our advocacy and community engagement work is providing summer and fall high school, college, and graduate internship opportunities for young people to gain real-world job training in environmental policy, law, advocacy, community science, communications, events, and education. These mentoring opportunities help foster the next generation of environmental protection leaders with real-world experience that can be applied to future education and career goals and help build our capacity.

Since 2015, we have mentored over 60 interns, with many moving into positions in the environmental field. In 2023, we launched our Capstone Conversations event (see below), a public meeting format where our interns can share and discuss their projects and how they contribute to our mission with our supporters and the community.
