Corte Madera Marsh
volunteer Training
Saturday, August 2, 10 AM - 12 PM
Join the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin as a volunteer for MPA Watch and help protect our stunning coastal ecosystems!
Our Marine Protected Area (MPA) Watch program trains community volunteers to observe and record human activity along our local shorelines. Your data helps inform how these protected areas are managed and ensures marine life and habitats stay healthy and resilient.
No science background is needed—just a love for the coast and a willingness to learn! We manage four sites, and each one has training dates. The last date is at Corte Madera. If you are interested in participating outside of a summer training date at Duxbury, Limantour, or Drakes Beach, contact Leslie Adler-Ivanbrook or call (415) 663-9312.
Capstone Conversations
Free
Friday, August 8 | 5:00 - 6:30 PM
65 Third Street, Suite 12
Point Reyes Station, CA 94956
Join us for an inspiring evening celebrating the next generation of leaders in environmental protection! Our Capstone Conversations event offers an opportunity to meet our talented Coastal Advocate and Conservation (Policy & Law) interns, as they present their projects and share how their work is helping to advance real-world solutions in environmental policy, law, advocacy, community science, education, and more. Light refreshments provided.
An essential part of our advocacy and community engagement work is providing summer and fall high school, college, and graduate internship opportunities for young people to gain real-world job training in environmental policy, law, advocacy, community science, communications, events, and education. These mentoring opportunities help foster the next generation of environmental protection leaders with real-world experience that can be applied to future education and career goals and help build our capacity.
Since 2015, we have mentored over 60 interns, with many moving into positions in the environmental field. In 2023, we launched our Capstone Conversations event (see below), a public meeting format where our interns can share and discuss their projects and how they contribute to our mission with our supporters and the community.
We want to thank the following donors for their generous support of the internship program, including: The JW & HM Goodman Family Foundation, Resources Legacy Fund, Cynthia Lloyd Scholars, Federica Bunge, David and Patty Wimpfheimer, and anonymous donors.

Volunteer for Litter Bugs Me
September 16 - 19
Individuals of local businesses, clubs, village associations, and nonprofits are invited to join us for this weekday event as a Litter Bugs Me Team Up to Clean Up Crew. Groups adopt a spot, roadway, beach, or creek in coastal Marin to clean up after the busy tourist summer season and before the first winter rains.
Volunteer for Coastal Clean-Up Day
Saturday, September 20
Or volunteers can help us for Coastal Cleanup Day, an international event dedicated to clean-ups worldwide. As part of our week-long "Litter Bugs Me" initiative, we host a weekend clean-up in various locations across northern West Marin (Inverness and Point Reyes). This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to volunteer in our community and make a meaningful impact on the wildlife and habitats within our watershed.
