We Won't Forget the BP Deepwater Horizon Catastrophe

Following the 2010 explosion that killed 11 rig workers, oil gushed from the seafloor for 87 days and more than 200 million gallons of oil spewed into the Gulf. Oil killed tens of thousands of birds, sea turtles, dolphins and fish and washed up on 1,300 miles of shoreline, from Texas to Florida. Despite removal efforts, as much as 60 million gallons of oil remained in the environment.
— Oceana, April 14, 2020 Press Release

As we approach the 10 year anniversary of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill on April 20th, we remember the lasting impacts and lessons from such a devastating spill.

It’s a good reminder of why EAC works alongside our partners in the Protect the Pacific coalition to oppose offshore oil, because apparently the federal government did not learn from this catastrophe or improve safety measures and continues to push for offshore oil drilling.

We continue our work to oppose offshore oil off of our local shores and beyond, because oil doesn’t stay in one place once it spills. And it always spills. We really value our partners in this effort including the business partners in the Business Alliance for Protecting the Pacific Coast (BAPPC).
